biography
Photography has been my abiding passion for over 30 years. After a brief flirtation with colour slides in the mid 70’s, I quickly changed too monochrome work and have remained completely in the dark to this day. I use most conventional b&w film (Trix, HP5, FP4 etc), as well as Kodak HIE Infra-red. I discovered this marvellous film in the early 80’s when it was still reasonably cheap and have used it fairly reguarly since then. It gives you the opportunity to create an interpretive image rather than a record of what is in front of the lens. The emphasis on interpretation is something that I try and carry through into my darkroom work, where I use traditional darkroom methods of contrast and tone control, along with postprint toning to create an expressive print. My work has been accepted in national and international salons and in 2001 I acheived a Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society (FRPS) in the visual arts section.
